Children's Christian Education

CRIB ROOM care is provided for the youngest members (0-18 months) during all worship services.  All parents are welcome to take their babies to church with them.  However, we feel it is important to offer an alternative.  It is our desire to give as much support to the parents as we can.

TODDLER ROOM is also staffed during all worship services.  This class is for all children 18 months to 2 years of age and meets in Room 7.  The goal of the caregiver is to help the children enjoy the time they spend in God’s house and develop a sense of security and well being.

3 YEAR OLD CLASS meets in Room 8 during the 11:00 hour.  They enjoy a story, a simple craft, a snack, and lots of time to enjoy one another through creative pay. CLICK HERE for syllabus.

WORSHIP CENTERS – 4 years of age through 2nd grade

“Young Children and Worship” is a relatively new concept in teaching young children how to worship while learning the basic Bible stories.  This curriculum shares the Bible stories in the context of a carefully ordered, age appropriate worship service.  As they learn the stories of their faith they also learn the order and meaning of the different parts of a worship service.  These Worship Centers provide a place where children can come to talk to God, listen to God, and hear the stories of God.  The 4 and 5 year olds (including kindergarten students) meet in Room 4 during the 11:00 hour. CLICK HERE for syllabus.  The 1st and 2nd graders meet in Room 5 during the 11:00 hour. CLICK HERE for 1st and 2nd grade syllabus.

WORKSHOP ROTATION MODEL –3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grades

We have 4 Workshops at the 11:00 hour where we consciously structure classes around what educators call “multiple intelligences.”  We have an Art Workshop, Computer Workshop, Game Show Workshop, and Theater Workshop.  Each workshop deals with a Bible story for four straight weeks with a different grade attending the workshop each week.  All 4 stories from the 4 different workshops deal with the same Bible character or topic.  At the end of four weeks each grade has had the opportunity to experience all four workshops.  There are schedules posted at both ends of the Christian Education wing for students to refer to when arriving Sunday morning. CLICK HERE for syllabus.

The curriculum for the workshops is written in a four year cycle so that every child will have heard the basic stories by the time they graduate from the 6th grade.

This year we are back to year one of the four year cycle.  When we begin a new program year in September we spend time at the beginning of every class going over the Overview of the Old Testament (CLICK HERE for syllabus) so they understand God has been working to redeem His world since the beginning of time.  We are hoping this will help them realize that to love God is to forget one’s own plans to be involved in God’s plan.  We spend some time in October going over the Overview of the Old Testament Books (CLICK HERE for syllabus) so they have a sense of where they can find the story.
