Opportunities for Adult Education and Fellowship

 

Adult Sunday School

 

Have you ever left worship wishing you could share the experience with someone?  Have you ever wondered about a certain scripture verse that was read?  Have you ever wanted to talk with someone about the sermon?  Now’s your chance! The opportunities listed below generally run September through may.

Adult Studies - Room 3 Sundays at 11 A.M.

During the following Sundays from Feb.8 – Apr.5, we will have members from the Transformative Leadership Coalition (TLC) group presenting independent studies that they have been researching for the purpose of learning where God is leading ALPC. Below is a list of the dates, presenters, and topics that will be shared during Adult Sunday School. An updated schedule will also be posted in the main foyer next to the Sunday School poster and outside the Session Room for you to check each week. Adult Sunday school is during the 11am worship hour in the Session Room.

Groups meeting for Christian Fellowship:

Cord of Three Strands

 

The Cord of Three Strands is a small group made up of couples of all ages.  Their name comes from Ecclesiastes 4:12 “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”  They meet on the first Friday of the month at 7:30 pm in each other’s homes.  At Christmas time, they meet at a restaurant and in the summer they have a picnic. They enjoy refreshments, fellowship, and discussion on topics that range from social issues, to a Bible verse, or current events, or something going on in their lives or at the church.

 

Care and Share Circle

 

Ages 60-90

This is a group of senior women who meet for fun, fellowship and socializing at lunch the second Tuesday of every month from September through May at a local restaurant.

 

The Serendipity Circle

 

Dine the last Tuesday of the month.  Goals: redecorate the crib room and plan to improve the church office. For more information, contact Cindi Dansizen (933-6446).

Groups meeting for Study and Christian Fellowship:

Together on Tuesdays

 Co-ed and intergenerational (Age range from 50's-80's)

Meet in room 2 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm every Tuesday for discussion and fellowship. This group have met for the last 27 years to inspire each other to be the body of Christ. They want to grow spirtually and enjoy each other through relationships.

 

The book for 2008-2009 is "Everybody's normal until you get to know them." Format is book or media and Christian discussion.

 

Mission: clothe a child for Xmas

 

Fifty Day Spiritual Adventure - two groups

 

Co-ed with a wide demographic in ages. Started with an intense focus in deepening faith. Format is socializing, sharing, study.

 

Circle of Smiles

Wide demographic in ages – 30 year span

Meet 2nd Tuesday of the month with a potluck in December (alternate homes/discussion leaders)
Book for 2008-2009 is Bad Girls of the Bible

Friendship and fellowship
Mission: basket for Faith house

Circle of Love

Ages range from 50’s – 80’s. Carpooling available. Meet the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. (alternate houses) Format is socializing, studying a book/discuss with bibles Book: read one chapter a month

 

 

The Circle of Friends

 

Demographic is mostly working women but not exclusively 4th Tuesday of the month - church library - 7:30 – 9 p.m. Format: Sharing, discussion and dessert Restaurant at Xmas and at the end of the year.

The Circle of Hope

 

Wide demographic in ages – have added a lot of new members recently Distinguishing feature: positive attitude and retired

One Wednesday a month from 9:30 a.m – 11 a.m. at the churc

Format is fellowship with discussion of Christianity

Ruth Circle

Distinguishing feature: all relative newcomers. Wide demographic in ages present (30 years to 80 years)

Meet 3rd Tuesday of the month at Carol’s house Book for 2008-2009 “Hop, Skip and Jump Through the Bible”

Mission: basket for Faith House and desserts for the Food Co-op

Pick new book in January

Mission: Alternative Holiday Market donation to Ovarian Cancer, also meals for member’s surgeries

Sarah Circle

Distinguishing feature - Continuity and hegemony

All their kids are in high school /college - group has been together for awhile

Meets 2nd Wednesday of month at 7 p.m. (alternate homes/discussion leaders)

Book for 2008-2009 is a “Hop, Skip and Jump Through the Bible”

Format is socializing, discussion, dessert
